Digital collectibles are collectible items in digital form, that can take shape in the form of non-fungible tokens (ERC-721 standard or similar) that are provably unique and scarce on the Ethereum blockchain. People have been purchasing physical collectibles for reasons like an emotional attachment, and/or social status. There is a growing number of people purchasing digital collectibles for similar reasons. These digital assets are provably rare, and have the authenticity, and ownership, tracked by the Blockchain.
Every digital collectible showcased on ricy, is created, identified, and transferred, as a unique token, on the Blockchain. The sale and movement of these digital collectibles are traced, verified, and recorded on the Blockchain (an immutable ledger). This means that their creation, unique identifiers, and ownership is not only traceable, but also verifiable. There can only ever be one owner of a digital collectible, at any one time.
Blockchain
The blockchain is a network of online computers, which publicly records information, similarly to a database. It is a decentralized system, that is not owned or controlled by a single authority. Information is only saved to it, after concensus from the community.
To create the digital collectible, the information and file data for the collectible, is saved to the blockchain/decentralized storage. By saving the collectible to the blockchain, it is possible to control the scarcity for it. If the digital collectible is defined to be a rare one-of-a-kind, the blockchain will ensure that no more than 1 edition of it, will ever be released. Anyone can verify this from the publicly accessible data on the blockchain. Finally, the blockchain keeps a record of every purchase/transfer for the digital collectible. This ownership history provides a means for anybody to verify a specific digital collectibles' ownership.
Ethereum is an open software platform based on blockchain technology, that enables developers to build and deploy decentralized applications. ricy is built on top of the Ethereum blockchain.
Ether (ETH or Ξ) is a digital cryptocurrency used to perform operations on the Ethereum blockchain network. You need to convert your currency (e.g. USD, CAD, GBP) into Ether to pay for ricy collectibles. You can't use USD/CAD to directly buy a digital collectible on ricy.
  • Depending on where you live, your cryptocurrency wallet may let you buy Ether direclty.
  • In the case that your wallet doesn't let you buy cryptocurrency directly, you will need to purchase Ether from a crypto exchange, such as Coinbase, or Binance. After you purchase Ether at the exchange, you would then transfer the Ether to your cryptocurrency wallet.
  • You need to convert your currency (e.g. USD, CAD, GBP) into Ether to pay for digital collectibles on ricy.
A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency designed to work as a medium of exchange. It uses cryptography to secure and verify transactions, as well as to control the creation of new units of a particular cryptocurrency. Popular examples of cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin and Ether.
A cryptocurrency wallet is a secure software program used to store, send, and receive digital currency/assets/collectibles, on a blockchain, like Ethereum. We recommend using cryptocurrency wallets, like MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, or Trust Wallet.
MetaMask is a desktop browser plug-in that allows you to store, send, and receive digital currency/assets/collectibles, on the Ethereum blockchain.

In order to purchase a digital collectible, you will need to be in possession of Ether, which will be stored in your digital cryptocurrency wallet. After you purchase a digital collectible through ricy, your cryptocurrency wallet will be used to store the collectible.
Your public wallet address (e.g. 0x123f681646d4a755815f9cb19e1acc8565a0c2ac) is a unique identifier for your cryptocurrency wallet. It's like a name that you can share freely with others, so that you can direct assets to your wallet.
When you interact with the Ethereum blockchain, you must pay for the computational effort to complete the request. That payment is referred to as "gas", the measure of computational effort. The price you pay for each unit of gas, increases or decreases, how quickly your request will be completed.
Getting Started
ricy is a web-based app that you can access on desktop or mobile.
If you want to just browse around the site for interesting digital collectibles, you do not need an account.
We recommend using Chrome or Firefox, if you are using desktop, as they are both compatible with the MetaMask digital wallet.

On mobile, it is recommended that you use Coinbase Wallet.

If you are on desktop, we recommend using MetaMask.

Subject to the primary owner's ("The current owner of the collectible") continued compliance with the Terms of Use and all applicable laws, the creator ("The entity which released to the public the purchased collectible") grants a limited, worldwide, nonexclusive license to the primary owner to copy, access, and use their ricy collectible and related art for the primary owner's own personal, non-commerical use, provided that the owner keeps all copyright and other proprietary notices intact.

Commercial Use Licenses will be considered on a case by base basis, with applications/inquiries required to be sent through the contact form for review and approval.

  • It will cost you money to purchase a ricy digital collectible. The pricing for the digital collectible is typically set using an auction. There is also a small "gas" fee to make a request on the blockchain.
  • Gas: Requests to the blockchain, requires a small fee, which is used to compensate the miners that process your request. This "gas" fee applies to every blockchain request in ricy.
Requests to the blockchain can take a few minutes, or longer, depending on how many other requests are in the queue before you. There will also be a few minute delay for ricy to sync with the blockchain.

No need to worry. If the request was successful, the digital collectible belongs to you.

No, all sales are final.
You can view and list your ricy collectible for sale on any secondary market that support the sale of ERC-721 tokens, such as OpenSea.
Staking
As an owner of a ricy collectible, there will be staking opportunities once the staking functionality goes live. Staking is the process of locking up the ricy collectible, to earn various rewards. While the collectible is locked up, it cannot be bought/sold, which will help to stabilize and build a base of holders in the community.
Yes, of course. Having said that, in the process of staking, the collectible will temporarily leave your wallet and be held in a staking contract. You may choose to unstake your collectible at any moment, for it to return to your wallet.
Prior to staking, it is recommended that you delist your ricy collectible from any secondary market.
There is no lock-in period for staking. You are free to unstake your collectible at any time.
When unstaked, the progress will reset at that time.
Yes, there are always gas fees required to interact with the blockchain. You will need to pay the nominal gas fee to stake and unstake your ricy collectibles.
Troubleshooting
There will be situations when the Ethereum network gets congested, and becomes slow. If the process has been pending for some time, you may want to re-submit the task in MetaMask/Coinbase Wallet/Trust Wallet, using a higher gas price value.
Etherscan is an interface to read content on the Ethereum blockchain network. Using this service, you can verify that transactions were successful, and track other details surrounding specific wallet addresses, and transactions.
A transaction may fail if you set the gas limit too low.
Whenever a request is processed on the Ethereum blockchain, a gas payment is required. Computing power is still utilized even if a transaction fails. The transaction fees are not paid to ricy, but to the Ethereum network and miners.
Unfortunately, it is not possible. The Ethereum blockchain governs the access to your digital collectibles, which restrics our access to them. This protects your digital collectibles from hackers, or any bad-actors that try to steal them. This security mechanism also means we can't help you recover them.
